This is a symbolic shark adoption!

Our $100 Silver Level Donation allows you to symbolically adopt a Large Shark (blacktip, Caribbean reef, blacknose, nurse, or lemon) from our database. You will be able to NAME your shark, and you will receive a beautiful adoption certificate with your shark's NAME, choose who it is ADOPTED BY, it's PIT TAG number or DART TAG number, & measurements, as well as our the species' Fact File. Please note, this tag is not a tracking tag, and you will not receive further data or updates about the shark.

What is a PIT TAG? Passive Integrated Transponders are small, rice sized microchips (each with a unique identifying code) very similar to the types of microchips used for pets. For over two decades, every juvenile lemon shark we caught was given a PIT tag, which allowed us to quickly find out if we were catching a new shark or a previously captured individual.

A DART TAG is a small external tag with a unique number which is in cooperation with the National Marine Fisheries Service. If the shark is recaptured, the tags number can be reported and the data is sent back to researchers.
