Juvenile Lemon Shark - Chelle

Our Bronze Level Donation allows you to symbolically adopt and NAME your very own juvenile lemon shark!

The lemon sharks of Bimini have been studied by the Shark Lab for over 3 decades! We conduct a population survey annually and have an ongoing DNA "Family Tree" project for these very special sharks. Your $50 Bronze Level Donation helps us continue this long term research study.

We will send you a certificate of your juvenile lemon shark's information including:

  • Individual PIT Identification number

  • Sex & measurements of your shark

  • Approximate age

  • Capture information

What is a PIT tag? Passive Integrated Transponders are small, rice sized microchips (each with a unique identifying code) very similar to the types of microchips used for pets. Each shark we catch is PIT tagged and this allows us to quickly find out if we are catching a new shark or a previously captured individual. PIT tags are not an active tracking tag, and we will only be able to update you on your shark if we recapture it.

  • Your adopted shark will be a UNIQUE and INDIVIDUAL shark: No one else in the world will have the same tagged shark as you!

  • In an effort to remain environmentally friendly all certificates will be sent as an image file to your email address.

  • Tax Deductible — The Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation is a USA 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax deductible as appropriate by law.
