Our $50 Bronze Level Donation allows you to symbolically adopt a Juvenile Lemon Shark from our database. You will be able to NAME your shark, and you will receive a beautiful adoption certificate with your shark's NAME, choose who it is ADOPTED BY, it's PIT TAG number, measurements, & approximate age at capture as well as our Lemon Shark Fact File. Please note, this tag is not a tracking tag, and you will not receive further data or updates about the shark.

What is a PIT TAG? Passive Integrated Transponders are small, rice sized microchips (each with a unique identifying code) very similar to the types of microchips used for pets. For over two decades, every juvenile lemon shark we caught was given a PIT tag, which allowed us to quickly find out if we were catching a new shark or a previously captured individual. These tags have provided a huge amount of data for our Lemon Shark Family Tree and natal philopatry discoveries. Read more about the research HERE.

Established in 1990 by Dr. Samuel Gruber, today the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation (BBFSF) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization located on the island of South Bimini, Bahamas. The mission of the BBFS Foundation is to advance our knowledge of the biology of marine animals especially the heavily impacted elasmobranch fish fauna (sharks and rays); to educate future scientists at undergraduate and graduate levels; and to disseminate our research results to advance the field of marine science and conservation biology, as well as raise public perception and awareness of sharks and other marine species.

The BBFSF is a registered US 501c3 non profit organization with a world famous Field Station based in South Bimini, Bahamas.
